Introduction to Fire Risk Assessment

The aim is to introduce the student to the principles of fire risk assessment. This course is suitable and recommended for those who have a particular responsibility regarding fire safety in their organisation .

The new Fire Order that came into force on 1st October 2006 requires that you carry out a fire risk assessment on your premises. Although a list of guides are available to help you, for the untrained person, it can be very difficult to identify fire hazards, evaluate the risks correctly and create a suitable and sufficient Emergency Plan for their Fire Risk Assessment.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the student should be able to:

  • Conduct a simple fire risk assessment
  • Explain why it is needed (legal requirements)
  • Identify hazards
  • Evaluate risk strategies
  • Implement this knowledge in their workplace to achieve a successful fire safety management policy through the concepts of prevention, escape, communication, confinement and suppression
