Fire Awareness Course
This course will help you comply with the new Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order that came into force in October 2006 by providing adequate training based on the particular features of your premises and your emergency plan.
Syllabus Outline
The course includes:
- Explanation of the nature of combustion, description of the triangle of fire, causes of fire and sources of ignition;
- Preventing fire, the importance of fire-doors and other basic fire prevention measures, where appropriate, the safe use of and risks from storing or working with highly flammable and explosive substances, and the importance of general fire safety, which includes good housekeeping;
- Procedures on discovering a fire, how to raise the alarm, what to do upon hearing the fire alarm, role of members of staff;
- The procedures for alerting other staff, if appropriate, members of the public and visitors including, where appropriate, directing them to exits;
- The arrangements for calling the fire and rescue service;
- The evacuation procedures for everyone in your factory, office or shop to reach an assembly point at a place of total safety;
- Location of escape routes, especially those not in regular use;
- How to open all emergency exit doors;
- Explanation of when and how to use extinguishers with practice using a fire extinguisher to put out a real controlled fire.
- Where appropriate, how to stop machines, appliances and processes and isolate power supplies in the event of a fire;
- The reason for not using lifts (except those specifically installed or nominated, following a suitable fire risk assessment, for the evacuation of people with a disability);

Final Test: Short test of 10 questions
